Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule has awarded scholarships to 92 students to study at Phoenix, the state’s first Indigenous private university.

The institution, located in the Agwada community of the Kokona local government area of the state, is owned by Senator Abdullahi Adamu, the first civilian governor of the state and immediate past chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

During the first matriculation press briefing of the university, the vice chancellor, Professor Bala Mohammed, said the affected students were selected from across all the 13 local government areas of the state.

Professor Mohammed said 260 pioneer students would be matriculated for the 2024/2025 academic session.

According to him, 342 students applied for various courses at the institution, but 260 met the admission criteria.

He announced the investiture of an accomplished businessman and philanthropist, Dr Muhammadu Indimie, as the pioneer chancellor.

The vice chancellor commended Governor Sule for awarding a contract to reconstruct the 24-km portion of the Kokona junction-Agwada road, which he said will greatly ease the difficulties residents of communities along the route suffer daily accessing the outside world.

He equally appreciated the governor for empowering 92 young persons from across the 13 local government areas in the state educationally by availing them the opportunity to study in the institution.
