Katsina, Athena Centre Train 100 Teachers In Pilot Programme

Katsina State has set off a new national benchmark in education reform by completing a teacher training initiative led by the Athena Centre for Policy and Leadership in partnership with Golden Links Educational Services.

The pilot program facilitated by international and local resource persons trained 100 teachers in cutting-edge, 21st-century teaching methodologies to enhance classroom engagement, critical thinking, and inclusive practices.

“The speed at which the Governor of Katsina State responded to the pilot programme, offered, at no cost, to several states was remarkable and a testimony to his commitment to education”, said chancellor of the Athena Centre for Policy and Leadership, Osita Chidoka, said in a statement signed by Aliyu Jalal on behalf of the policy centre.

The statement added that this milestone, championed by Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, underscored Katsina’s commitment to redefining education.

Katsina State Commissioner for Education, Zainab Musa Musawa, lauded the programme’s impact: “This initiative is key to changing the education narrative in Katsina. By empowering 100 teachers, we are laying the foundation for sustainable transformation in our education system. This collaboration with Athena Centre and Golden Links will significantly improve classroom outcomes, particularly in science and technical education.”

Golden Links Educational Services, the delivery partner, emphasised the significance of the training. “This programme reflects global best practices, equipping teachers with the tools they need to thrive in today’s educational landscape. From modern instructional techniques to the neuroscience of learning, these skills will ensure Katsina teachers lead the way in 21st-century education,” the organisation stated.

Commenting further, Chidoka praised the Governor and Commissioner Zainab Musawa for providing facilities and ensuring the success of the training. “By embracing our offer for this pilot, Katsina has positioned itself as a leader in transforming education across Nigeria. With this success, Athena Centre is ready to scale this initiative to all 36 states, reaching 10,000 teachers over the next six months, setting the foundation for a nationwide transformation of our education system.”

Building on the success of this pilot, the Athena Centre aims to create a ripple effect, impacting thousands of teachers and millions of students across Nigeria by equipping educators with the tools and techniques needed to foster a new era of learning.
