Yobe, National SS Education Commission Meet Over Safe School Initiative, Others

The Yobe State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Assocociate Prof essor Abba Idriss Adam, and the executive secretary, National Senior Secondary Education Commission Dr. Iyela Ajayi have met on the need for the effective implementation of the Safe School Initiative (SSI) in the state.

A statement issued by the Information Officer of the ministry, Ibrahim Adamu Saleh said the meeting, which took place in Damaturu the Yobe State capital was also meant to see how best to improve the teaching and learning environment.

The commissioner, represented by Director of School Services Alh. Bukar Modu Mustapa, commended the commission for organizing the meeting assuring the state government’s commitments towards working hand in hand with the commission for improvement in the education sector.

The commissioner expressed happiness that the commission will construct classrooms, staff rooms as well as an E-library with a capacity for 98 students at Government Science Technical College, Gaidam.

The executive secretary of the Senior Secondary Education Commission, Dr. Iyela Ajayi, represented by the Director of Quality Assurance, Hajiya Rabiatu Umar Mohammed emphasized that the SSI as a national policy was aimed at ensuring the safety and security of students, teachers, and school facilities across Nigeria, particularly in regions affected by violence and insurgency.

The ES also said the initiative was meant to protect schools from threats, provide emergency preparedness and promote a conducive learning environment for all children.
