Governor of Kebbi State, Nasir Idris, has renamed the Kebbi State University of Science and Technology Aleiro (KSUSTA) as Abdullahi Fodio University of Science and Technology Aliero (AFUSTA).
Idris announced the changes at the Malam Abdullahi Fodio Annual Public Lecture as part of activities for the Gwandu Emirate International Horse Racing and Cultural Festival.
He noted that the changes were made to keep the name fresh for future generations to come and to remember the renowned scholar Mallam Abdullahi Gwandu, who significantly contributed to education and societal development before and after the Jihad.
The governor also revealed that, Sheikh Abdullahi Fodio was a brother and close ally of Sheikh Usman Dan Fodio, and was instrumental in the advancement of knowledge, reform, and leadership during his era.
He added that the renaming of the institution is expected to inspire students and the academic community to emulate the virtues of scholarship and moral excellence embodied by Sheikh Abdullahi Fodio.
