The minister of interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, will deliver this year’s convocation lecture of the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) on Technological Solutions to Food Insecurity on Friday, November 29, 2024. This year, 519 of the 6,500 undergraduate and postgraduate students will bag first-class honours degrees.

Tunji-Ojo, who is expected to deliver his lectures at the 34th and 35th combined convocation ceremonies for the 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 academic sessions, is billed to speak on the theme “Technological Innovations: A Panacea for Food Insecurity” as part of the activities lined up for the ceremony.

Briefing journalists last Friday, FUTA vice-chancellor Professor Adenike Oladiji explained that this year’s convocation would honour three valedictorians as the best-graduating students overall.

He named the trio Faromika Ifeoluwa Faith from the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE/17/3175) and Vitowanu Johnbull Anuoluwapo from the Department of Industrial and Production Engineering (IPE/17/3299), both with a CGPA of 4.96 for the 2022/2023 academic session.

For the 2023/2024 academic session, he named the best graduating student to be Ajakaye Oluwasegun Joshua from the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (MME/18/7019), who achieved a CGPA of 4.95.

The vice-chancellor further said the ceremonies, which will be presided over by the chancellor, Emir of Katagum, HRH Alhaji Umar Farouk II, will take place on Friday, November 29, and Saturday, November 30, respectively. Notably, 519 students will graduate with first-class honours degrees.
