Modibbo Adama University (MAU), Yola, has celebrated Professor Vadlya T. Tame, the first-ever specialist in post-harvest physiology and storage technology in Northern Nigeria.

The registrar of MAU, Mallam Usman Mustphar Maigawa, praised Tame’s achievement, emphasising that his expertise will help reduce wastage, increase farmers’ economic power, and benefit the state and country.

He also noted that MAU has demonstrated its ability to produce world-class professionals who can contribute to national economic development through various fields.

Maigawa congratulated Tame, the head of the Department of Crop Production, for putting the university on the global map and encouraged him to continue exploring new areas of research and mentoring students in the field.

In an interview with the press, Professor Tame expressed that the recognition was not just for him but the entire university community and society.

He stated the significant challenges farmers face due to post-harvest losses, stressing that his work aims to reduce waste and improve storage technologies, which in turn will boost the economy.

He said, “With our current resources, we hope to build on existing knowledge to enhance the storage of farm produce, which will have a positive impact on our economy.”
