Aboki disclosed this while addressing Imo women led by the state commissioner for women affairs, Hon Nkechinyere Ugwu, at a special advocacy event as part of activities to commemorate the 16 days of activism against gender-based violence (GBV).

The 16-day activism is a global initiative aimed at raising awareness and eliminating violence against women, children, and other vulnerable groups in the state.

He emphasised the importance of a united approach towards protecting vulnerable groups, particularly women and children, from all forms of violence.

The CP assured the public that the Police command was committed to swift and decisive action against VAPP law offenders, even as he encouraged citizens to report any violent incident and assured them that all complaints would be handled with utmost professionalism and confidentiality.

The police boss commended POWA for its ongoing support to victims of violence and its critical role in advocacy, awareness, and empowerment and pledged the command has continued collaboration with POWA and other stakeholders in the fight against gender-based violence in the state.

Those who attended the event were former members representing Njaba state constituency Rt. Hon. Uju Onwudiwe, the special adviser to Governor Uzodimma on women’s affairs, and Hon. Mrs Stella Chinecherem. Both called for more vital collaboration with the police to ensure the effective enforcement of the VAPP law.

Members of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), civil society organisations, and other vital groups attended the event.
