The executive chairman of Bauchi State Commission for Youth and Women Rehabilitation Development (BACYWARD), Alhaji Tanko Yusuf Dutse, has called on residents of the state to abide by environmental laws and patronise the waste contractors assigned to their communities instead of disposing of waste indiscriminately.

Tanko Dutse called while fielding reporters‘ questions shortly after meeting with traditional leaders and supervisors of cleaners under the commission at his office yesterday.

The BACYWARD chairman said the routine meeting is to interact with the relevant stakeholders to propose solutions to some identified challenges, especially unswept streets under the state commission.

He implored the people to desist from indiscriminate waste disposal and complement government efforts to ensure a safe and clean environment, especially on the streets.

He also charged them with reporting cleaners who were not active for necessary action, as the government would not condone such harmful acts after constantly paying their allowances.

While pledging the state‘s continuous support of market leaders, the chairman added that abuse of the environment through human activities is increasing, with its attendant consequences on everyone‘s collective well-being.

Dutse, however, commended Governor Bala Mohammed‘s foresight, proactive measures and deliberate steps to preserve and clean the state, calling on people to support the effort to achieve the set objectives.

Earlier, on behalf of the traditional leaders and supervisors, Alhaji Ayuba Abubakar Wakilin Mai Anguwar Kobi assured us that we would continue working to make the state more environmentally clean and safe.
