A non-governmental organisation, Sightsavers Nigeria, has conducted a four-day training for physically challenged women on entrepreneurship skills in Kano to make them self-reliant.

Speaking during the distribution of start-up kits to 100 beneficiaries at Murtala Mohammed Library, Kano, the programme officer, Girlchild Education, Sightsavers Nigeria, Anita Kelvin, said the training was to help the young women identify businesses and modalities of enhancing them.

“The whole idea is that young women with disabilities are among the vulnerable and marginalised people within the society and because of that, we’ve taken surveys and asked them questions and realised that they need certain skills, one of which is how to start and sustain a business.

“Today, we are empowering 100 beneficiaries but we are targeting four hundred beneficiaries in the near future.

“The start-up kits we are giving the beneficiaries include tooth paste, Pears Baby products and other cooking materials,” she stated.
