Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the government of President Bola Tinubu, stating his rejection of unfulfilled promises from previous administrations.

Wike while speaking at the launch of the Kabusa-Takushara Access Road project, explained the importance of delivering on governmental commitments, underscoring the impact it has on local communities.

He said that this is not just about politics; that it was about hope of the people, of the FCT.

“I cannot support a government that is not serious and makes promises without fulfilling them. We are all witnesses to how past governments have neglected rural areas, but with President Tinubu’s administration, that narrative is changing,” he said.

Wike described the Kabusa-Takushara road project as part of the “Renewed Hope Agenda,” aimed at restoring faith among residents who may have lost hope in governmental support.

“Today, we are laying the foundation for the future. For the first time, roads are being contracted in rural areas, and streetlights will also be part of this initiative. This is a commitment that has never happened before.

“Have you ever seen government presence here before? This is the first tangible project you are witnessing under President Tinubu’s administration,” he said.

The minister also used the opportunity to address community members regarding the inappropriate use of students as protestors.

“Our children deserve the best and should not be brought out of their schools to lie down for roads. This practice will not be accepted any longer. Our students are here to learn, not to serve as props for political agendas,” he said.

He urged school principals and local leaders to prevent such actions in the future, reiterating the need for quality education and facilities for the youth.

“We must ensure our schools are equipped to give our children the education they deserve,” he said.

Wike reiterated the government’s commitment to the welfare of residents, promising that the Tinubu administration is serious about delivering results.

“Let it be known that if I could not support a serious government, I would not be here today. I believe in the promises made by President Tinubu and assure you that we will fulfill them,” he added.

As part of the project, Wike called on contractors to engage local labour and provide job opportunities for residents, emphasising swift project completion, rain or shine, without any excuses.

“We have mobilised you; let us see results. The Renewed Hope Agenda is not just a slogan; it is a commitment to make significant changes for the betterment of our people,” he said.
