The vice chancellor (VC), Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Prof Maduebibisi Iwe has scored his administration high on infrastructure development.
Iwe stated this in an address he presented at the 12 convocation ceremony of the university, saying until his era infrastructure deficit had been one of the university’s major challenges.
“We’ve made substantial efforts to untie the knots that led to numerous abandoned projects. We’ve been interfacing with the contractors who had left their sites and convincing them to return to site,” he said.
He, however, expressed concern that some of the contractors had deliberately hindered the administration’s efforts to overcome the infrastructure deficits in our university.
Iwe further noted that despite the paucity of funds, the administration had continued to be modest in its expenditure, saying it is a case of using a little to achieve much.
“Opening of the permanent site of the university has been receiving attention as a number of projects have been commenced and making progress.
“We’re hopeful, and with God on our side, the university’s infrastructure challenges will be overcome soon,” he said.
