Human rights lawyer, Dele Farotimi, is to spend another 10 days in the correctional facility as he was refused bail by a Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State, on Tuesday.

Farotimi is standing trial for allegedly defaming the founder of Afe Babalola University Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD), Chief Afe Babalola, SAN, in his recently published book titled “Nigeria and Its Criminal Justice System”.

In the book, he accused Aare Afe Babalola of corrupting the judiciary and compromising the Supreme Court to procure a fraudulent judgement in the service of his clients.

LEADERSHIP reports that the initial 16-count charge earlier preferred against Farotimi, by the prosecution, led by Samson Osobu, were reduced to 14 in an amended charge.

The defence team, led by Mr Taiwo Adedeji, had prayed the court to grant their client bail but was opposed by Osobu of the prosecution team, claiming that the defendant is not competent to be granted bail.
