The Senate has called for an investigation into the recent demolitions in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

An investigative committee has been set up to examine the matter.

The committee will summon Wike to appear before it to explain reasons behind the demolitions.
The motion, moved by Senator Ireti Kingibe of the FCT Senatorial District yesterday in Abuja, expressed concern over the demolition of structures in the nation’s capital and called for an immediate halt to it.
The senate resolved to establish an investigative committee to scrutinise the demolitions and report back within a specified timeframe.

In a related development, the upper chamber also summoned the managing director of Julius Berger Nigeria PLC for refusing to honour invitations to provide details about the Odukpani-Itu highway project.

The highway connects Odukpani in Cross River to Itu in Akwa Ibom.
According to a motion sponsored by Senator Osita Ngwu, Julius Berger has repeatedly refused to honour invitations to provide information about the project, despite receiving public funds exceeding N18 billion.

The senate condemned Julius Berger’s refusal to comply with lawful invitations, describing it as contempt of the National Assembly and a challenge to constitutional authority.

To ensure compliance, the senate has invoked its constitutional powers to issue a warrant of arrest, compelling the attendance of the managing director of Julius Berger at the rescheduled investigative hearing.
