Country director, German Initiative for Knowledge Transfer, Obinna Ichita, has said releasing the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu will expose the masterminds of insecurity in the South East.

Ichita, a former member of Abia State House of Assembly, made the claim in a statement made available to LEADERSHIP Friday in Umuahia, the capital, yesterday.

The statement was entitled “Mazi Nnamdi Kanu: Insecurity in South East; Those behind the Trouble; And the need for a Presidential Intervention.”

“My argument is that the release of Kanu would contribute in no small ways to the cessation of hostilities in the South East zone of the country,” the statement asserted.

It said the approach would make it easier for the security agencies to identify agitators for any causes, attackers of security personnel, and other manners of criminals in the zone.

“Since even full blown wars are settled through negotiations, it would be smart to avoid wars through negotiations. Moreover, modern democracies seldom go to war (see Democratic Peace Thesis).

“I appeal to President Bola Tinubu to kindly intervene and approve his release and the restoration of peace and security in the zone through negotiation and alternative dispute resolution mechanism.

“A timely commencement  of this process will achieve the desired objective. Further delay may defeat this goal as some may view such gesture as a mere political strategy.

“The effects of the release of Kanu by President Tinubu may be analyzed from different perspectives; security, commerce, transportation, politics and diplomacy.

“Many are in agreement that his release will not only portray Tinubu as a unifier, but will also showcase the country as another example of Africans solving their problems without external directives.

“Rwanda of today is markedly different from that of 1994. We can achieve a peaceful and just homeland, where no one is oppressed! If that country can do it, we can do it too.

“It is smarter to talk about ( the cause of the problems), instead of fighting about  it,” he said.
