The National League of Veteran Journalists (NALVEJ) and Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Kwara State have mourned ace photojournalist, Ibrahim Salami, popularly known as the Tallest.
Salami, who was head of the photographic unit of The Herald, National Pilot Newspapers and the defunct Peoples Advocate at different times, died yesterday at the age of 75.
He was buried according to Muslim rites at his residence in Ilorin, Kwara State.
NALVEJ, in a condolence message signed by its chairman, Tunde Akanbi and the publicity secretary, Abdullahi Olesin, said it received the death of one of its active members with heavy heart.
The league described the demise of Salami as very painful, noting his positive role in the efforts towards its resuscitation three years ago.
It equally noted Salami’s contributions to the development of journalism in Kwara and Nigeria through his mentorship of photojournalists who have also become star photojournalists.
Also, the state council of the NUJ in a condolence message by its chairman, Abdullateef Ahmed and secretary, Omotayo Ayanda, described Salami as a quintessential and thoroughbred photojournalist, mentor and union leader who lived a fruitful life and bequeathed worthy legacies to the younger generation.
