The death toll in the boat mishap that occurred last Saturday has risen to 11.
This was as seven bodies of passengers, including women and children have been recovered from a boat incident that occurred at Junbam village in Tarmuwa local government area of Yobe State. Seven persons were also injured in the accident.
The incident occurred last Saturday afternoon when two passenger boats on their way to Babangida weekly market capsized. Two people were initially confirmed dead from the accident.
Yobe State Emergency Management Agency Mohammed Goje confirmed the incident to journalists yesterday in Damaturu the state capital.
According to him, seven bodies have so far been recovered by the divers who are working on the rescue operation, eight other people are hospitalised at Dapchi General Hospital in Bursari local government area but they are stable.
He said the eight injured people were in stable condition, adding that “we would have moved them to the teaching hospital in Damaturu but because of their situation it is very difficult to do so, so it is better they are stabilised at the nearest hospital.”
