Gombe First Lady Launches 2nd Edition Of FG’s Elderly Support Scheme, Distributes N200,000 To 250 Beneficiaries

The Gombe State Governor’s wife, Hajiya Asma’u Inuwa Yahaya, has officially launched the 2nd Edition of the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Initiative Elderly Support Scheme (RHIESS) in Gombe State on behalf of Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.

The event, held under the theme “TOTAL WELLNESS: Happy, Healthy, and Prosperous Lifestyle,” targeted 250 vulnerable elderly citizens aged 65 and above, including veterans from the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA), with each beneficiary receiving N200,000 cash support.

Speaking at the launch, Hajiya Asma’u Inuwa Yahaya explained that the grant had been increased from N100,000, which was given during the scheme’s inaugural edition in 2023, to N200,000 this year.

She noted that this upward adjustment was in response to the current economic realities and aimed at ensuring beneficiaries could enjoy a more comfortable festive season.

“Beyond the cash support, the scheme also provides free medical outreach and essential support items to some vulnerable groups. I encourage you all to prioritize your health—exercise regularly, like walking, get adequate rest, spend time with loved ones, and engage in activities that bring you joy,” she urged the beneficiaries.

The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Asma’u Iganus, commended the First Lady’s tireless commitment to people-oriented programmes under the Renewed Hope Initiative.

She encouraged the beneficiaries to invest the funds wisely in meaningful and productive ventures.

In her remarks, the APC State Women Leader, Lumbi Abubakar, applauded the initiative and urged beneficiaries to continue supporting the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration, emphasizing that such programs reflect the government’s commitment to citizens’ welfare.

Some of the beneficiaries, overwhelmed with gratitude, expressed joy and appreciation for the timely intervention during the prevailing economic situation.
