National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) has recognised and celebrated journalists for their exceptional contributions to advancing the fight against HIV/AIDS in Nigeria.

The commendation came during the agency’s End of Year Media Party, held to appreciate media professionals for their impactful reporting and unwavering support in amplifying HIV/AIDS campaigns and initiatives.

In her opening remarks, the Deputy Director, Public Relations and Protocol Division, NACA, Mrs. Toyin Aderibigbe, highlighted the crucial role the media plays in shaping public awareness and driving the success of HIV response efforts.

“Tonight, we come together to celebrate not only the end of a successful year but also the invaluable partnership we share with you, the media. Your commitment to amplifying our stories and campaigns has been instrumental in combating HIV/AIDS and improving public health outcomes across Nigeria,” Mrs. Aderibigbe said.

The Director-General of NACA, Dr.Temitope Ilori, further stressed the significance of the media’s role in ensuring vital information on prevention, treatment, and support reaches every corner of the country.

She acknowledged journalists as strategic partners in NACA’s mission to eradicate HIV/AIDS as a public health threat by 2030.

“Without you, the message cannot go out there. Prevention, treatment, and achieving an AIDS-free generation rely heavily on your ability to inform, educate, and create awareness.

“You have consistently supported us by covering key events, such as the Prevention Conference and the launch of the Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission Acceleration Plan,” the DG stated.

She praised media professionals for their outstanding work in covering NACA’s initiatives, including partnerships with traditional and faith-based organisations, technical working groups, and other stakeholders.

“You have been there every step of the way, helping us amplify these efforts and ensuring that the gospel of prevention and treatment is heard across communities. For that, we are deeply appreciative,” she added.

The End of Year Media Party served as a platform to honor journalists whose reporting has contributed significantly to raising awareness about HIV/AIDS, reducing stigma, and encouraging people to seek testing, treatment, and prevention services.

The DG reaffirmed NACA’s commitment to strengthening the collaboration in the coming years, pledging continued support to the media as they carry out their vital work.
