Speaking at the unveiling ceremony held at the Institute’s headquarters in Abuja, NIQS President, QS Kene C. Nzekwe, FNIQS, highlighted the importance of cost optimization in construction and the Institute’s role in providing innovative solutions to stakeholders, including the government.

“The MG RX8 symbolizes progress, innovation, and professionalism. It will enhance our visibility and competitiveness as we represent the Institute in high-level engagements,” Nzekwe said.

He reaffirmed the Institute’s commitment to advancing cost management practices, stressing its pivotal role in optimizing resources and ensuring project success.

“Cost management is central to the construction industry. We’ve developed solutions and provided recommendations extensively. Whether these are implemented is beyond our control, but our responsibility remains to offer sound solutions,” he stated.

Nzekwe noted positive economic trends, including the gradual stabilization of the exchange rate and reports of declining fuel prices, which he said could lower construction costs if sustained.

“These trends, if maintained, will have a significant multiplier effect, benefiting the industry overall,” he added.

Despite challenges, NIQS remains optimistic about its strides in 2024, including the acquisition of the MG RX8 to enhance visibility and competitiveness. The Institute also plans to amplify awareness about the critical role of quantity surveyors in public projects, especially in ensuring efficient resource utilization.

“Quantity surveyors are indispensable in achieving successful and efficient projects. We urge the government to consult us for better outcomes,” Nzekwe stressed.

The Chairman of the National Sports Commission, QS Shehu Dikko, who chaired the event, commended the NIQS leadership for prioritizing branding and visibility.

“We must proudly showcase our identity as quantity surveyors. Visibility ensures we remain integral to Nigeria’s socioeconomic development,” Dikko said.

He suggested pooling resources through a levy to support branding initiatives, including providing branded vehicles to members nationwide.

“Promoting our profession requires more than just attending meetings and conferences. We need to brand it, upscale it, and make it highly visible and impactful. This will ensure we remain integral to the socioeconomic development of our country,” he emphasized.
