Abia Lawmaker To Register 2025 WAEC, NECO Candidates

Member representing Umunneochi constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Mathias Umeh has pledged to pay registration fees for candidates sitting for the 2025 West African Examination Council (WAEC) and the National Examination Council (NECO) in the constituency.

Umeh stated this yesterday while speaking with LEADERSHIP Weekend in Umuahia, the state capital, saying the registration would be extended to candidates in both public and private schools.

He explained that the gesture was borne out of his love for education as a former school proprietor, to empower the youths, and his agenda to fasten development in the constituency.

“Last year, we offered scholarship grants of N100,000 to 100 students in tertiary institutions from the constituency. We intend to increase both the number and the amount next year,” he said.

Ume, who is the chairman of the House Committee on Budget and Planning, noted that his 2024 constituency project was the renovation of Nneato Secondary School, Nneato which is now awaiting inauguration.

He maintained that since his emergence in the House and the present administration in the state, there had been numerous significant achievements in the constituency and more were yet to come.

“Before now, insecurity had so much threatened the constituency that people were finding it difficult to move about freely as the economy in general was in serious jeopardy.

“Today, thanks be to God, that the governor, Dr Alex Otti from day one, took up the challenge head-on and the narrative has changed. The constituency is safe again,” he said.

The legislator appreciated the governor for the numerous infrastructure development in the constituency including Lokpanta Cattle Market and its environs.

On the 2025 Appropriation Bill which was presented by Otti last week, the chairman assured that when passed into law, it would be a consolidation on the achievements of the 2024 Budget.

He said as a representative of the constituency operating from home, he had been on a daily basis “having interactions with the people, feeling their pulse, and sharing their challenges and burdens.”
