Paramount ruler of Edagberi and Betterland Communities in Ahoada West LGA of Rivers State, His Royal Highness Sunny Jacob Ubele, has urged parents to prioritise their children’s safety and wellbeing, especially during the festive season.
Speaking after he received an award as the Royal Father of the Year at the Bayelsa Media Network Award (BMNA), yesterday at the NUJ Press Centre in Yenagoa, the royal father emphasised the importance of parental guidance and constant care, regardless of a child’s behaviour or challenges.
Amb. Ubele who was reacting to the recent stampedes in which several children were killed during food distribution ahead of Christmas, noted that children, even when difficult, require unwavering support, love and discipline to guide them toward positive change.
Highlighting the dangers that often arise during the Christmas period, Amb. Ubele, appealed to parents to remain vigilant and engaged with their children to strengthen their bonds and ensure the safety of their loved ones during the holidays.
He stressed that neglecting or abandoning one’s responsibility as a parent could have long-term negative consequences, adding that with consistent advice and attention, any child can improve over time.
“You cannot give birth to a child and you abandon them. Parents should take good care of their children irrespective of their behaviour.
No matter the age of that child, try to take care of that child. Please make sure that you keep on scolding, keep on reprehending, keep on advising that child, that child will definitely change one day,” he said.
