Abdulahi Opejin is a visionary who embarks on developing sustainable communities through innovative infrastructure planning and environmental stewardship for urban planning. He designs urban landscapes to balance development, ecological preservation, and inclusivity of social strata by seamlessly integrating technical expertise with a commitment to resilience and equity.

His journey into urban planning began at the Federal Ministry of Lands, Housing, and Urban Development as an assistant Urban Planner in 2015, where Abdulahi had contributed to encouraging sustainable urban development.

He contributed significantly to the development control unit of the ministry in preparing and approving building plans, as well as compliance with zoning and environmental guidelines, amongst which are the designing of Osu, Ile-ife, and Ilesha federal government site and service scheme layout plans.

His experience in layout development thus helped in balanced residential, commercial, and industrial planning while solving urban challenges like unregulated development and environmental issues such as flooding.

At Home for All Consults, where he worked as an urban planner between 2018 and 2019, Abdulahi became quite enterprising, leading some urban planning projects. He applied GIS and remote sensing to locate sites for residential estates, paying close attention to accessibility, environmental impact assessment, campus design, and community development.

He ensured that the projects were functional, aesthetically pleasing, and affordable, coordinating investors, architects, and local authorities in an effort to address Nigeria’s housing deficit while encouraging sustainable growth.

At Metronome Consult, a leading GIS and urban planning firm in Lagos, Abdulahi managed a multidisciplinary team of geospatial analysts who mapped over 200 square kilometers across three local governments, including the Kosofe local government area, from 2019 to 2021.

His astute leadership guaranteed the success of various projects by ensuring that data were validated correctly, conducting ground truthing, and adequately managing resources. Further, he devised innovative strategies for property charge collection and potent economic strategies to showcase his ability to align fiscal responsibility with technical excellence.

Currently, he works at Folkland PDC, the engineering arm of PWAN Real Estate Company in Lagos, where he maximizes sustainability in residential estate layouts. He is responsible for the estate planning, development, and the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA).

He also creates detailed site maps, topographical analyses, and zoning regulations by optimizing land use, integrating advanced geospatial technologies, and prioritizing environmental sustainability in urban planning.

Undoubtedly, his concentration on infrastructure combined with green practices will continually set a benchmark for sustainable urban development.

Additionally, Abdulahi is an inclusion champion who collaborates with policymakers, community leaders, and researchers to formulate holistic urban development solutions.

Through this unique approach, Abdulahi has helped create short-term solutions in cities and set a new paradigm for adaptive, sustained development. An example is the Leagacy Polytechnic campus design at Ikare-Akoko, Ondo State, which he managed alongside other professionals in 2018.

Abdulahi’s contribution stands as testimony to the transformational effect of urban planning for a purpose. By combining his technical expertise with an understanding of social and environmental dynamics, he is truly a trendsetter—a force that will inspire professionals to take up the challenge of rewriting the future of urban development.
