Two-time world heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, has declared his intention to reclaim his title for a third time with a Tyson Fury bout in 2025.

Speaking during a visit to President Bola Tinubu at the President’s Ikoyi residence in Lagos on Wednesday, the British-Nigerian boxer shared his ambitions with reporters.

“My target is to become a three-time world champion and fight Tyson Fury in 2025,” Joshua stated.

Reflecting on his career challenges, Joshua acknowledged past defeats but expressed a renewed determination to achieve his goals in the New Year.

“Of course, I should have won [past matches], but I didn’t. I can’t stop now; I have to keep going until I reach my destination,” he said.

Joshua, who is in Nigeria for the Yuletide holidays, spoke warmly of his experience in the country, describing the atmosphere as “10/10.” He praised President Tinubu and his team for their hospitality.

“They did an amazing job hosting me. I got to see how the country is organized and run and learn about the big plans for the future,” he noted.

Looking ahead to 2025, the former champion emphasised his focus on maximising opportunities and building on lessons from the past year.

“Hunger makes you want to work harder because time is limited. When I look back at 2024, I believe I could have done more, and now I have another chance in 2025. I’m going to make sure I take every opportunity,” Joshua said.

On the possibility of a much-anticipated bout with Tyson Fury, Joshua struck a cautious yet hopeful tone.

“We’ll see. Let’s get in the ring. Only God knows, but for me, we’ll see in the future,” he remarked.

Joshua also extended a heartfelt message to Nigerians at home and abroad, urging them to cherish their roots.

“To all Nigerians in the diaspora, you have a place called home. It’s a beautiful place, and the energy here is unbelievable. I love you all with my heart,” he said.

He also pledged to contribute to local communities, stating: “Even though I’m in London, I’ll make sure to bring good energy, opportunities, and work back to Nigeria.”
