The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) has called on the federal government to honour its outstanding promises to the union in 2025.

In a New Year message, SSANU national president Comrade Mohammed Haruna Ibrahim stated that fulfilling these promises remains critical for maintaining industrial harmony and ensuring the welfare of university staff.

SSANU also stated that it is closely monitoring the Tax Reform Bills currently under consideration by the national assembly and their implications for workers’ economic stability.

Comrade Ibrahim stressed the need for inclusive and transparent policymaking, adding that SSANU is committed to advocating for reforms that protect its members’ interests while fostering national economic growth.

The union also expressed concern over the escalating electricity costs in universities, which hinder effective operations and urged the federal government to take immediate action to resolve this crisis.
He said, “We urge the honourable minister of education, Dr Tunji Alausa and his team to continue to maintain and strengthen the established relationship with SSANU.
It is imperative that the federal government fulfil its outstanding promises to the union, as these commitments are critical to industrial harmony and the welfare of university staff. “

“Additionally, the rising cost of living, inflation, cash crunch, and technological challenges continue to impact our members.

SSANU will persist in advocating for policies that enhance its members’ economic and professional well-being while pushing for technological upgrades to modernise our universities”.

SSANU also stated that the nation’s prevailing insecurity remains a significant barrier to sustainable growth, calling for intensified government efforts to address the issue.

Ibrahim further urged SSANU members to remain united and steadfast in pursuing fairness, equity, and justice. He expressed optimism that the union could overcome challenges and achieve new milestones in 2025 through collective efforts.
