Residents of Taraba State yesterday demanded to know the whereabouts of Alhaji Aminu Alkali, the deputy governor of Taraba State, who has not been seen or heard from for the past 22 days while on official duty.
Alkali was reportedly attacked by a partial stroke and was rushed to a hospital in Abuja over three weeks ago. However, no government official nor his family member had issued an official statement on the whereabouts of the deputy governor or his health status.

A concerned citizen of Taraba State and recent past national chairman, PDP 100% Comrade Dennis Shima, who officially wrote and copied to LEADERSHIP Friday, urged the state governor Agbu Kefas and the state’s House of Assembly to rise to the occasion by providing detailed information about the deputy governor’s whereabouts and disclosing his health status.

“Fellow Tarabans, you will recall that His Excellency Alh. Aminu Alkali, deputy governor of Taraba State, was not seen or acknowledged during the following important events.

“During the presentation of the 2025 budget by the governor of Taraba State Agbu Kefas at the Taraba State House of Assembly in Jalingo, 2024.

LEADERSHIP Friday reliably gathered from a close family source of the deputy governor that Alkali is suffering from a partial stroke and may not be able to resume office for a period that can not be ascertained due to the state of his health.

The source further revealed that Alkali is currently hospitalised in Abuja, contrary to speculation that he has been treated in Egypt, North Africa.

The concerned citizens, therefore, call for immediate action from the Taraba State Executive Council and Taraba State House of Assembly to consider section 189 of the 1999 Constitution as amended, subsection (1).

Responding to the call, the information and re-orientation officer, office of the deputy governor of Taraba State, Mr Jibaniya Jeremiah, said the deputy governor had health challenges promptly addressed by being hospitalised, and he is recuperating.

He assured the people of the state and the general public that the deputy governor was recovering well and would soon resume his official duties.
