Diaspora Catalyst For Sustainable Development, Says Ex-deputy Governor

The former deputy governor of Imo State, Prince Eze Madumere has challenged Nigerians in Diaspora to  come home and invest  and take advantage of the  various possibilities   inherent in establishing industries across the  federation.

Prince Madumere made this known while presenting a keynote address at the Imo State Diaspora Summit, 2025, with the  theme,  “Imo -Ga -Adi – Mma”, meaning “Imo Will Get Better” held in Owerri.

The former deputy governor emphasized that Diasporans serve as catalysts for the socioeconomic development of the state and the nation.

According to him, this is buttressed through their remittances , which forms a large chunk in the capital in flow and portfolio ratio across the country.

He submitted that the state has the potentials and the capacity to accommodate investors in the industrial estate established by the former governor of the state, Dr. Sam Mbakwe of blessed memories.

Prince Madumere, challenged the Diasporans to explore these aerial land and situate their investments in the vicinity, which will create jobs and engage the teeming youths in useful ventures.

According to him, all eyes are on the Diasporans to salvage the society through meaningful productive ventures, which will invariably accommodate the teeming population of unemployed youths.

Prince Madumere stressed that the government cannot do it alone and urged them to contribute their quota to the socio-economic and sustainable development of the state.

He said, “The Diasporans have the capability, acumen, and dexterity, coupled with the financial muscles, to turn things around.

“All eyes are on you to salvage and rescue the society from abject poverty and deprivation. I am aware you have the resources going by your enormous remittances, which contribute immensely to the gross domestic earnings in the state.”

Prince Madumere highlighted that the state is a safe haven for investors as the enabling environment has been put in place for businesses to thrive.

He tasked the government to sustain the momentum that would attract investors and reinvigorate economic growth and sustainability.

The former deputy governor expressed delight at being part of this epoch-making event, which has brought together dignitaries from all over the world.

His words, “It is my pleasure to observe that the organisers have the interest and sustainable development of our state in mind.

“I wish to commend them for this well-thought-out initiative, which I presume will go some way to assist the government in shaping the narratives of the state and the citizenry.”

He commended the organisers for their vision and foresight in putting together the summit.
