Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed of Bauchi State has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to heed Nigerians’ concerns, saying, “Your policies aren’t working, and people are suffering.”
In remarks made yesterday in Bauchi while receiving a delegation of Islamic scholars led by Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir, Governor Mohammed advised the president to listen to the citizens and rectify his previous missteps.
“I am not insulting anyone, nor is this arrogance; instead, it is our duty as leaders to speak the truth to one another. We are saying this so that the president can amend his errors. Nigerians are enduring hardship, and we, the governors, are also suffering due to the president’s poor policies.
“For example, consider the tax reform policy. No government can thrive without revenue; if the sources of that revenue are obstructed, it cannot function.
“I am certain you have heard that we are at odds with the president. We disagree because our people are suffering, yet the president has chosen not to listen to us.”
Governor Mohammed expressed to the delegation his intention to discuss the matter with Sheikh Jingir, saying, “You are among the few individuals who can approach the president regarding this issue. You are one of the people he takes seriously.”
