Ohanaeze Ndigbo Election To Hold – Enugu Court

Justice Orji of the Enugu High Court has ordered that the scheduled election of the Igbo socio-cultural group Ohanaeze Ndigbo worldwide should be held without any interference.

This is even as it restrained three persons from interfering with the election holding on Friday, January 10th, 2025.

The pan Igbo socio-cultural group election will be held on January 10th, 2025, for a fresh election into all the national positions, even as Rivers state is expected to produce the next President General for the association.

A former governor of Imo State, Dr Ikedi Ohakim had in suit number E/01M/2025 dragged Ohanaeze Ndigbo; the outgoing PG, Nze Ozichukwu Chukwu; Amb Okey Emuchay; Chief Ejiofor Onyia; Engr Chidi Ibe; Mazi Okechukwu Ishiguzoro; and Chief Richard Ozubu to an Enugu state high court over the election.

Justice N.R. Oji on Wednesday, January 7th, 2025 issued an order that restrained Engr Chidi Ibe; Mazi Okechukwu Ishiguzoro; and Chief Richard Ozubu from interfering with the electoral committee set up by the outgoing President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Nze Ozichukwu Chukwu.

The order read, “That the 5th, 6th, and 7th respondents are restrained whether by themselves, their agents, partners, servants, representatives or privies, however described from, interfering with the electoral committee inaugurated by the 2nd respondent on 27th December 2024 and chaired by the 4th respondent and or conducting elections to the office of President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo (the first respondents) or any other office, contrary to the provisions of article 11 of the 1st respondent’s 2004 constitution (the constitution of Ohanaeze Ndigbo enacted on 27th January 2004) pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit”. The court fixed the next hearing date to January 22nd, 2025.

Meanwhile, a former Inspector General of Police, Mike Okiro is touted to be the next Ohanaeze Ndigbo President General though he has faced some opposition.
