Armed cultists, suspected to be members of the notorious Greenlanders gang, launched a brutal attack on the Igbogene Community in Yenagoa local government area of Bayelsa State on Wednesday night.

The attackers, numbering about 10 and wielding dangerous weapons, stormed the community around 8 pm, leaving three dead, including the son of a former community vigilante leader known as “Money Sweet.”

The invasion sent residents into panic as they fled for safety, locking their doors in fear of the rampaging cultists. The incident has left the community reeling from the tragic loss and the growing insecurity in the area.

A resident disclosed that the first victim of the attack was the son of a former head of the community vigilante group, who was gunned down near his house.

The second victim, reportedly not a cultist, was tragically killed after failing to reveal the whereabouts of his elder brother.

Investigations revealed that the attack stemmed from a violent rivalry between the notorious Bobos and Greenlanders cult groups, and the cultists involved are said to be residents and indigenes of the Igbogene community.

While police reports confirmed three persons were killed in the attack, community members insisted that only two lives were lost, with the third victim currently receiving treatment for gunshot wounds.

The youth president of the Igbogene Community, Ezekiel Igbenivie, who confirmed the development, said those involved have absconded, “but one of those persons shot is still alive. He is receiving treatment.”

The arrival of the police teams of Operation Doo Akpo, the Anti-kidnapping and the Rapid Response Team, however, calm down the situation.

Spokesman of the Bayelsa Police Command, Musa Mohammed, who also confirmed the incident, said those shot include one Donaldson Mison, 28yrs; Addy Mulan, 27; and Greenboy Dudella, 29yrs.
