The Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) has rated Taraba State government number three out of the 36 states of the federation for exceptional service to retired civil servants both at the state and local government levels.

The NUP chairman Taraba State chapter, Alhaji Mamudu Famlak,  disclosed this during the flag-off ceremony for the payment of 1134 local government retirees at the Taraba State Local Government Staff Pension Board Jalingo, the state capital.

The payment of the 1,134 local government retirees was recently approved by the state governor, Agbu Kefas.

While speaking with journalists, Famlak also disclosed that the state union was moved to urge the governor to vie for a second term in office, given his priority for the well-being of retirees and his continued efforts to redefine governance, which has so far attracted transformation in all sectors, placing Taraba on the global map of development.

“We sincerely commend Governor Agbu Kefas for his passion for the well-being of local government and state retirees.

“Considering the governor’s commitment to the wellbeing of retirees, Taraba state was rated 3rd among the 36 states of the federation with exceptional commitment for senior citizens, which earns Governor Agbu Kefas a chance for the NUP National Award.

“As senior citizens of Taraba, we wish to declare our total support for Governor Agbu Kefas in the 2027 governorship election. This endorsement is to appreciate the governor for the work done so far that has placed Taraba on the global map among the top best Nigeria states”. The state NUP chairman declared.

Famlak also cleared the air during the interview on the ongoing leadership tussle of the union in the state, stating that Comr. Einathan Bila Auta’s pay-rolling in January 2025 confirmed that he had not been a pensioner in the state, not to mention being the chairman of NUP, Taraba State.

“It is now clear for those who have been asking questions about whether Taraba NUP has two chairmen. The acclaimed chairman, Comrade Einathan Bila Auta, has never been a member of NUP until today. You can not be a member of an association and be its chairman.

“Einathan has just been pay-rolled today which makes him an automatic member as defined by the constitution”. The NUP chairman stated.
