The Presidency has accused Bauchi State governor, Bala Mohammed, of engaging in what it described as “irresponsible politics,” urging the governor to focus on addressing the pressing challenges of his state rather than using President Bola Tinubu’s administration as a diversionary tool.

In a statement released by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, the Presidency expressed disappointment over Governor Mohammed’s alleged failure to prioritise the welfare of Bauchi residents, many of whom it said were among the most impoverished in the country.

“Governor Bala Mohammed is playing irresponsible politics instead of addressing the numerous challenges facing Bauchi State.

“The people of his state, who still rank among the most impoverished Nigerians, deserve better leadership and governance,” the statement on Friday morning read.

The Presidency highlighted that while President Tinubu was laser-focused on driving national development and revamping the country’s economic fortunes, Governor Mohammed appeared more interested in political grandstanding than fulfilling his duties to the people of Bauchi State.

“President Tinubu has a national mandate to deliver on his promises, and Nigerians are already seeing the positive impact of his reforms.

“Meanwhile, the question for Governor Bala Mohammed is simple: what is he doing to make life better for the people of Bauchi State? Has he utilized the increased resources at his disposal to improve their quality of life?”

The statement emphasized that President Tinubu was committed to building stronger collaborations with sub-nationals and stakeholders to enhance the well-being of all Nigerians.

It further noted that any attempt to distract the federal government or undermine its reform agenda is both “self-serving” and “undemocratic.”

On the contentious issue of tax reforms currently before the National Assembly, the Presidency reiterated President Tinubu’s stance that all grievances must follow legislative processes rather than resorting to attempts to derail the reforms.

“Attempts to stampede or abort this process must be regarded as undemocratic and self-serving.

“The President believes in strengthening institutions of state and encourages constructive engagement through proper channels,” the statement added.

Calling for accountability, the Presidency urged Governor Mohammed to redirect his energy toward governance.

“Just like President Tinubu has a duty to all Nigerians, Governor Bala has a greater duty to the people of his state. Constant blustering and political antics will not relieve him of his responsibilities,” the statement concluded.

The Presidency also assured Nigerians that President Tinubu remained steadfast in his commitment to turning around the nation’s economic fortunes and delivering on his four-year mandate.

Citizens, it said, would continue to experience the benefits of his administration’s reforms in the coming weeks and months.
