The commendation came during a courtesy visit by participants of the Leadership and Strategic Studies Course 3/2024 from the resource centre, who toured the NYSC office yesterday.

The team, led by Major General AA Tarfa, comprised 35 participants, including 1 Colonel and 34 Lieutenant Colonels.

The Army Resource Centre also praised the involvement of Corps Members in various national assignments such as elections, population census, and immunization programs. Their roles in leadership training and promoting national unity were also highlighted.

General Tarfa expressed his gratitude for NYSC’s continued support for the Nigerian Army Resource Centre. He noted that the tour would provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of NYSC operations and its prospects, emphasizing the Scheme’s importance in national development and unity.

Speaking, NYSC Director General Brigadier General YD Ahmed stated that the Scheme has empowered over three million Ex-Corps Members through its Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development training.

He also highlighted the significant impact of the NYSC Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD), which has provided free medical services to millions of indigent Nigerians unable to afford hospital bills.

General Ahmed further noted that the Legal Aids Corps, a Community Development Service group of Corps Lawyers, has helped secure the release of many inmates who could not afford to pay their court fines from correctional centers across the country.

Also addressing the participants, the Director of Planning, Research, and Statistics, Alhaji Ahmed Wada Ikaka, provided a historical overview of the NYSC and its four cardinal programmes.

He revealed that a total of 5,820,170 Ex-Corps Members have participated in the Scheme since its inception, with 3,350,854 acquiring various vocational skills through the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development training
