Gombe State Governor Inuwa Yahaya has been commended for his administration’s prompt payment of pensions and settlement of the backlog of gratuities to retirees.
An All Progressives Congress (APC) stalwart in Gombe State and member of the defunct APC Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), Lawal Bayero, made the commendation in a press release issued to journalists yesterday.
Our correspondent reports that last week, the governor presented cheques totalling N4.2 billion to over 2,000 retirees as part of his settlement of outstanding gratuities.
He has so far settled N17.235 billion out of the N21 billion backlog of unpaid gratuities.
According to the APC stalwart, the settlement of outstanding gratuities to retirees demonstrates a strong commitment to the welfare of senior citizens in the state.
Bayero advised the governor to embark on initiatives that will enhance the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) and focus on development projects at the local government level to stimulate economic growth and empower communities.
