The Kebbi State branch of Almajiris Support Initiatives of Nigeria (KBSASIN) has called on the state government and other well-to-do individuals to help impart Islamic and Western education in the state.

The founder,  Comrade Shehu Umar made the appeal while briefing newsmen on the challenges facing the organisation yesterday in Birnin Kebbi metropolis.

He said the centre has hundreds of students, both male and female, undergoing various training, such as Islamic and Western education, knitting,  carpentry, tailoring, shoemaking, and computer skills.

“This training, which is on a daily basis, taking place at the Initiatives centre, trainers were provided with one square meal being donated by some government officials and Islamic scholars,” Comrade Umar said.

“Our main challenge is the lack of enough funds to enable us to discharge our responsibilities from the line-up of our programmes,” he added.

Comrade Umar also noted that the centre is affiliated with some secondary schools, to which students will be admitted after they complete their studies and training and continue their studies at higher institutions.

Other activities of the centre include securing the release of inmates with minor jail terms from prisons.
