A new generation of agribusiness innovators is set to make significant strides in addressing Nigeria’s food security challenges, following their participation in a transformative programme organised by ALX and the Food Business Growth Project.

The two-week initiative brought together 20 agripreneurs, equipping them with the skills and tools to overcome barriers in Nigeria’s agricultural value chain. By leveraging technology and strategic entrepreneurial training, participants gained insights into creating scalable and sustainable business models designed to tackle food production inefficiencies and drive economic growth.

The programme culminated in a pitch competition, where four standout businesses received ₦250,000 micro-grants each, while six others were awarded essential equipment to scale their operations. These interventions aim to accelerate growth and amplify the impact of these ventures in communities across Nigeria.

Country general manager for ALX Nigeria, Ruby Igwe,  emphasised the importance of empowering entrepreneurs in agriculture.

“Nigeria’s food security depends on innovation and leadership within the agricultural sector. This program equips entrepreneurs with the skills to not only grow their businesses but also contribute to solving systemic challenges,” Igwe said.

Convener of the Food Business Growth Project, Ameenah Kazeem, underscored the programme’s role in fostering resilience and sustainability.

“This collaboration has provided agribusiness leaders with the tools they need to drive meaningful change. The ripple effects of this initiative will strengthen food systems and economic stability across Nigeria,” Kazeem remarked.
