The Rivers State Police Command has identified the expatriate who drowned at Aleto River in Eleme local government area of the State on Monday night as Mr. Gibson Reuben.

Reuben, a Dutch and the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Rivers State Cassava Project Limited, drowned when his vehicle fell off the Aleto bridge, while trying to escape from suspected kidnappers.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the State, Grace Iringe-Koko, who revealed this in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, said the State’s Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, had already visited the scene of the accident.

The statement read in part: “CP Olugbenga Adepoju was accompanied by the Area Commander Eleme, DPOs within the Eleme Area Command and tactical teams of the command already at the scenes.”

The CP at the scene strongly condemned the attack as “very barbaric” and has ordered a full-scale investigation with immediate arrest of the perpetrators of the reprehensible act, vowing to bring them to justice.

“This incident is a disturbing situation and the Police Commissioner’s swift response is a welcome step towards addressing these concerns. He is calling on the good people of Rivers State to provide credible information that could lead to the arrest of the fleeing perpetrators of this act,” the PPRO added.
