The Federal Comptroller of Works, Lagos State Engr. Olukorede Kesha, on Thursday, debunked the rumour that the Lagos Third Mainland Bridge is shaking, describing it as baseless and driven by the fifth columnist’s ulterior motives.

Kesha clarified that social media platforms such as WhatsApp and Facebook had claimed that a part of the Third Mainland Bridge had opened up and was shaking.

The Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State addressed Journalists and stated that the messages were false and should be disregarded. She spoke with journalists while touring the bridge.

She said,” The Minister of Works, Engineer David Umahi, directed that I come out and tell Lagosians and Nigerians that there is nothing wrong with the bridge.

“The rumour is the handiwork of mischief columnists – those who are idle and those who think that the political atmosphere is too quiet for them. That is why we have come here. I took time with you people (journalists) to go through the entire length of the 11km bridge. We drove round this, came back, and saw that there is nothing amiss,” she said.

The controller, who emphasised that the bridge was safe and its integrity intact, used the opportunity to tell the motoring public, Lagosians and all Nigerians that the integrity of the bridge was not in doubt.

Kesha acknowledged ongoing maintenance work on the bridge, including recent asphalt overlays, lane markings, and guardrail installations.

She added that the bridge was undergoing underwater repairs, and efforts were being made to address slab deflection in specific areas.

She said traffic restrictions, particularly for heavy trucks, were in place to safeguard the bridge and ensure its longevity.
