After allegedly selling a plot of land to three different buyers at Ayihe village along the International Market road in Makurdi the Benue state capital, a middle-aged man, Tartor Ayihe has killed himself.
Our correspondent gathered that the deceased Ayihe took his life by drinking a poisonous substance believed to be ‘snipper’ in order to put an end to the constant trouble from the buyers.
Narrating the ordeal, a community source who do not want his name in print said the deceased took his life on Wednesday evening after the community leaders asked him to give a detailed account of how he sold the piece of land to three different buyers.
The source said, “When the buyers discovered that he sold the piece of land to three different persons, they reported the matter to the kindred head of the area, who summoned him to come and give his own version of the story.
According to the source, “He was summoned to the home of the kindred head alongside the buyers. We all assembled there to hear him out. But the late Ayihe suddenly left the meeting venue pretending he wanted to pick something from his residence.
“We later heard that he went to a provision store to purchase poisonous chemicals believed to be snippers which he took home switched off his phone and drank.
He maintained that, “we waited for him for over an hour after which the kindred head sent some persons to go and bring him back to the venue, and on getting to his home he was discovered lifeless and empty bottles of the chemical he consumed were littered on the floor. He was rushed to the hospital immediately but was confirmed dead by the doctor.”
When contacted through a telephone conversation, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Catherine Anene who confirmed the incident, said, “Already we have deployed our officers to investigate the mystery surrounding the suicide.”
