Cancer Responsible For 1m Orphans Within 1 Year —MWAN President

National president, Medical Women Association of Nigeria (MWAN), Prof. Rosemary Agu, has stated that cancer has led to the death of parents of over one million children in the country in one year.

According to her, empowering women with the right information and making them more capable of taking decisions about their health is the way forward.

Prof. Agu spoke at the MWAN’s national executive council meeting and scientific conference with the theme: ‘Advancing Women’s Health Including Maternal and Child Health Outcomes for Sustainable  Future’ held in Jos yesterday.

She said maternal health is very critical, adding that there was urgent need to prioritise the health of women and children the country was to achieve any meaningful development.

She encouraged female doctors to actively participate in MWAN’s activities which are life changing, stressing that they provide opportunities for personal growth, professional development and community impact.

“Let us continue to work as sisters united in shared goals to uplift and improve women’s health in our communities. Let us always hold dear our beloved motto: “Healing with the love of a mother,” she said.

Plateau State president of MWAN, Dr. Nana Emeribe, in her address, said the theme and topics lined up for the conference along with the exceptional resource persons and panelists promised to deliver insights and knowledge that greatly inspired and enriched participants of the conference.

 

The Plateau State government in a goodwill message through the commissioner for health, Dr. Cletus Shurkuk, commended MWAN for its outstanding contributions to healthcare and making significant impact and dedication to improving the health of the people of the state.
