Kauru Local Government Community Development Associations (CDAs) have raised an alarm over rising insecurity in Kauru LGA of Kaduna State.
The association demanded the establishment of two military bases in Kauru and Kumana chiefdoms to fight the menace bedevilling the areas.
In a statement on Sunday, the Chairman of the Kauru Local Government Community Development Association, Chief Abel Habila Adamu, described the recent development as uncalled for and pleaded for immediate action from the government to ensure the safety and security of their people.
According to Adamu, the recent surge in violence and attacks in the area has resulted in loss of lives, displacement of people, and destruction of properties.
“As a community, we have tried to address these issues through our initiatives, such as neighbourhood watch programs and community policing.
“However, the situation has deteriorated where we require immediate intervention from the relevant security agencies and the global community”.
“The cases of abduction of innocent people in the area are alarming and uncalled for; just last Friday, a woman was killed by her abductors in Kiffin Chawai after paying ransom as demanded by the bandits.
“Similarly, in Kumana and Kauru chiefdoms, thousands of people have been displaced with others killed in Dokan Karji, Bandi, Rumaya, Kwassam, Kaibi, Kusheka, Geshere and Binawa axis among others”.
“To address this issue, we are calling on the government to establish two military bases, each in Kauru and Kumana chiefdoms.
However, he added that establishing a military base would provide a permanent security presence in the area, helping to deter attacks and providing a sense of security for the local population, who are now sleeping with their two eyes opened in fear of the unknown.
“While thanking the government for establishing a military base in the Chinmai chiefdom, we also want to call for more security personnel to address the spate of attacks witnessed in some parts of the chiefdom.”
“As law-abiding citizens, we are willing and ready to work closely and cooperate with the government in its quest to restore lasting peace in the local government area.”
The association, however, commended the State governor, Uba Sani, for the ongoing rural transformation projects across the twenty-three local government areas of the State.
“However, you should note that Kauru local government comprises three chiefdoms: Kauru, Kumana, and Chawai. All these chiefdoms have no reasonable access roads. Hence, people from the Kawai axis must travel hundreds of kilometres through Saminaka in the Lere local government area to Pambegua in the Kubau local government area.
“This has also contributed to the delay in the swift response by the security operation Safe Haven, located in Kafanchan, as they have to travel 9 to 10 hours before arriving at the scene of any attack in the local government area.
“It is in light of this that we are advocating the extension of the construction of the Pambegua – Kauru Road to Kwassam, Geshere, and Mariri to link communities from the three chiefdoms and ease transportation problems faced by the people, especially during the rainy season”.
