The Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC) Chairman, Dr Joseph Aremo, announced this at the commission’s headquarters in Akure.

Aremo explained that 12 political parties keenly contested the election, as the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) withdrew 48 hours before the election.

The ODIEC boss explained that the contest for chairmanship and councillor seats was held in the 18 local government areas and 203 wards.

He commended Ondo state residents for upholding the tenets of the rule of law and voting for their chosen candidates.

As of the time of filing this report, the headquarters of the Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC) was filled with All Progressives Congress winners and party members for the official presentation of the certificate of return to the elected chairmen.

ODIEC has also scheduled the presentation of certificates of return to the 203 Chancellors- elect for Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the ruling APC in the state has commended voters and its members for peaceful and mature conduct during the local government election.

The party also expressed satisfaction with the entire organisation and arrangements made by the State Electoral Body, Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC), to ensure a smooth exercise.
In a statement issued by the party’s state publicity secretary, Alex Kalejaye, the party noted that the people of the state came in great numbers on Saturday to vote for candidates of their choice in an orderly manner befitting a politically sophisticated entity.

Kalejaye said, “We applaud Mr Governor, Dr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, and the State Chairman, Engr. Ade Adetimehin. Election committees are set up at the state, local government, and ward levels to ensure cohesion within our fold and mobilisation ahead of the election.

“The leadership style of the State Governor further endears APC to the people. This was complemented by the quality of candidates with intimidating credentials put forward by the party.

“We acknowledge the contributions of security agencies and all other stakeholders who strongly believe in the tenets of democracy.

“The people have spoken in crystal language. We congratulate all our elected chairmen and councillors on the victory at the poll. Our expectation is that they will assiduously justify the confidence of the electorate, the government and the party.”
