Governor Mohammed spoke yesterday during the annual lecture organised by the Qadiriyya Bauchi State in collaboration with Association for the Revival of Islam Heritage of Ibn Fodio (AFRIHIF) held in Bauchi.
Mohammed, while highlighting the critical role such gatherings play in fostering intellectual, spiritual, and socio-cultural reawakening, expressed his gratitude and lauded the organizers for choosing Bauchi as the venue for the prestigious event.

He emphasised that the conference was a celebration of Sheikh Usman Dan Fodio’s historical contributions and a platform to reflect on Nigeria’s shared legacy and chart a path for a brighter future.

Governor Mohammed noted that the legacy of Shehu Usman Dan Fodio, the founder of the Sokoto Caliphate, is one of the most iconic in African history, saying that Dan Fodio’s jihad was a transformative movement that reshaped the socioeconomic, educational, and political landscapes of Northern Nigeria and Western Sudan.

He then urged the audience to celebrate Dan Fodio’s intellectual brilliance, religious devotion, and administrative acumen.

Governor Bala praised the Sokoto Caliphate’s enduring influence, particularly its emphasis on justice, inclusion, and governance.

He acknowledged the critical role of traditional institutions in Bauchi State, highlighting efforts by his administration to restore and elevate their importance.

These efforts, he stated, include renovating palaces, providing vehicles, and revising the financial support for emirs and district heads to better reflect their pivotal role in societal harmony and progress.

He also announced ongoing efforts to improve the welfare of traditional rulers, stating that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP)-led administration is revising their salaries.

This move, Mohammed added, aligns with a broader strategy to boost productivity, promote sustainable development, and foster security in the state.

Governor Bala further pledged to settle outstanding gratuities for pensioners, demonstrating his administration’s commitment to uplifting the living conditions of all citizens.

He dedicated the prestigious award he received at the event to the people of Bauchi, expressing gratitude for their unwavering support and promising to continue working for their betterment.

The conference, chaired by Sheikh Karibullah Nasiru Kabara, leader of the Qadiriyya Movement in Africa, served as a reminder of the Sokoto Caliphate’s significant historical and cultural contributions and relevance to contemporary governance and societal development.
