The group also built and handed over 15 houses for other less privileged and the downtrodden in the area to alleviate their suffering and ensure a roof over their heads.

The president general of the association, Chief Jonathan Aloke explained that the distribution of the rice to the women was to tackle hunger and extreme poverty in the community.

He further maintained that apart from the distribution of the rice to the women, the association has also sponsored major surgeries of patients in the community.

“We have done exceedingly well in our community. We have built over 15 houses for the less privileged and the downtrodden. We look at the indigent members of our community that do not have good roof over their heads and embark on the construction of houses for them.

“We construct the houses, furnish them and hand it over to them. It is our little way of giving back to the society to enhance their living standard and elongate their lives.

“We also visit hospitals almost in two different occasions per year. We have done 32 major surgeries. We identify those who needed surgery and can not afford it, we intervene by paying the hospital bills of the identified indigents amongst us.

” This time around, we thought it very important for us to look at the extreme hunger within our people.
“We decided to invest over N15million to make sure that we provide little food base on our ability and we wish that we will do more as time goes on to make sure that the issue of hunger in Ugwulangwu Ezeokechima community is a bygone story.”

On his part, the BoT Chairman of the association, Prince Nwigwe Chibuzo said the distribution of the rice was to alleviate the poverty of the people of the community.

“We all know there is problem in food security, there is scarcity of food. This pushed us to go into this food sharing.

“So, this year, we said we will not only focus on medical outreach, we will diversify by sharing food items to alleviate the hunger and poverty in the land “, he said.
