Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has launched the second phase of the women empowerment initiative under the Livestock Fattening Programme of the Kano Agro-Pastoral Development Project (KSADP).

In a statement on Tuesday, the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature, noted that the beneficiaries were drawn from the state’s 44 Local Government Areas to promote self-reliance and combat poverty.

According to him, 7,158 goats were distributed to 2,386 women, each receiving three small ruminants (goats) to support their livestock entrepreneurship.

Speaking during the flag-off ceremony, Governor Yusuf reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to addressing poverty through innovative and inclusive approaches, noting that the state would provide 1,342 cows and 1,822 rams to women and youth in subsequent phases.

He quoted the governor as having emphasized that the initiative is part of his administration’s broader strategy to empower vulnerable groups and foster economic independence among women and youth in the state.

While warning against diversion, Governor Yusuf said the program aims to enhance household income and reduce dependency on government aid by integrating women and youth into the agricultural value chain.
