The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has called on heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) at all levels of government to adopt the budgetary approach implemented by the Ministry of Interior under Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

The Ministry, through a value-driven and bottom-up strategy, reportedly eliminated wastages and exceeded its N2 billion Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) target set for 2024, achieving a record remittance of over N5.6 billion to the federal purse.

In a press statement issued by Darlington Nwauju, the Rivers State APC spokesperson, the party highlighted the ministry’s achievements as a model for effective governance and accountability.

The ministry’s ability to complete multibillion-naira contracts without capital allocation was particularly praised, as was its success in prioritising policies and projects that addressed the needs of ordinary Nigerians.

“We believe that adopting this value delivery strategy in budget implementation will help MDAs focus on needs assessment and ensure people-centered policies,” Nwauju stated.

He further urged Nigerians to actively track the implementation of budgets to ensure taxpayers’ money is utilised effectively.

The APC also called on the National Assembly to reward the Ministry’s performance by increasing its allocation in the 2025 budget.

Nwauju emphasised that the ministry’s oversight of key paramilitary agencies critical to national security warrants improved funding for personnel, overhead, and capital projects.

The statement encouraged the media to spotlight exceptional performances like that of the Ministry of Interior, alongside exposing wastages and corruption in public offices.

“Such a performing Ministry deserves commendation and greater support to surpass its 2024 achievements,” Nwauju added.

The APC reiterated its commitment to promoting accountability and prudent financial management across all sectors of government, describing the Ministry of Interior’s performance as a benchmark for public service excellence.
