She added that the monumental initiative comes at a time when Nigeria was seeking to fulfill its commitments under the SDG decade of action.

The project’s Lead Climate Finance and Circular Economy Advisor, Mr Victor Agih, remarked: “GreenSpree is the game-changer in the quest for a circular economy in Africa adding with this initiative, they are creating a dynamic ecosystem where environmental sustainability and social progress go hand in hand.

“GreenSpree, the first African plastic credit program of its kind, is designed to drive a circular economy by incentivizing plastic waste recycling through a National Plastic Recycling Credit Scheme.

“The initiative will not only contribute to the global agenda of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) but also create a sustainable framework for transforming Nigeria’s waste management industry.

“GreenSpree will accelerate SDG targets including SDG 1 (No Poverty), SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), SDG 13 (Climate Action), SDG 14 (Life Below Water), and SDG 15 (Life on Land).”

Key Features of the GreenSpree Nigeria Initiative entails plastic Credit Lottery which is a revolutionary platform to incentivize recycling behavior among Nigerians, turning plastic waste into currency that supports social welfare programs.

The scheme will generate thousands of new jobs in the green economy sector, particularly in rural areas, promoting job creation, skills development, and community empowerment.

Through strategic partnerships and reinvestment of credits, the GreenSpree Initiative will ensure that 50 million Nigerians receive access to vital health services, reducing barriers to health care and addressing pressing public health needs.

GreenSpree’s unique blend of environmental and social impact makes it a model for other nations in Africa and beyond to follow in their pursuit of an inclusive, green future.
