Gombe First Lady Inducts Students Into Young Farmers Club

In an effort to instill the love for farming among school children, the First Lady of Gombe State, Hajiya Dr Asma’u Inuwa Yahaya has inaugurated 50 school children from both primary and secondary schools across the State into the Young Farmers Club.

This initiative is in line with the vision of the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, aimed at influencing the students to adopt modern farming techniques and contribute to the country’s food sufficiency and economic diversification.

Inducting the students from 5 schools across Gombe state, Hajiya Asma’u Inuwa Yahaya highlighted the critical role agriculture plays in Nigeria’s economy, describing it as the backbone of  sustenance for decades.

The revitalization of the Young Farmers Club by the first lady Senator Remi Tinubu aims to re-engage young people with agriculture as a viable and sustainable career path.

She lauded Senator Oluremi Tinubu for her commitment towards improving the lives of Nigerian families through agricultural programmes under the Renewed Hope Initiative, covering poultry,smart farming, potato farming, among others .

“We have a lot to show to our children and I believe the time is now. There is a need to catch them young and have them do right. Once the children get it, it would be easy to bring it home.

“With this initiative, the First Lady, Senator Remi Tinubu is not only planting seeds in the soil but also sowing seeds of hope, resilience, and economic prosperity of our nation”.

She urged all public schools to promptly engage and identify students interested in joining the Club.

Earlier in the event, the Commissioner for Agriculture, animal husbandry and cooperatives, Dr Barnabas Malle said by targeting schools in Gombe State, the initiative seeks to reshape student’s perspectives on farming, highlighting it as a business opportunity and an essential investment for national food security.
