Governors elected on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) platform have expressed confidence that the party will defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), reclaim power at the federal level, and restore the prosperity Nigerians enjoyed before 2015.

In a seven-point resolution issued after their closed-door meeting in Asaba, the Delta State capital, the governors urged Nigerians not to lose hope despite the country’s current economic and security challenges.

The forum, chaired by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, assured party members that efforts were being intensified to resolve its internal crises.

The governors also called on President Bola Tinubu to urgently review his administration’s macroeconomic policies to alleviate the prevailing hardships.

“The forum commended PDP governors for implementing measures to ease the suffering of their people while laying the foundation for sustainable development in their respective states.

Addressing the party’s leadership disputes, the governors praised the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) for its efforts in resolving internal conflicts, particularly regarding the position of the party’s national secretary.

The forum reaffirmed its support for the Appeal Court judgment and urged the NWC to implement it effectively.

“The Forum, having examined all legal notices required for convening a valid National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, has advised the NWC to reschedule the NEC for March 13, 2025,” the communiqué read.

Expressing concern over the resurgence of non-state actors threatening national security, the governors called for a more substantial security architecture to protect lives and property.

“While we commend the bravery of our armed forces and security agencies in combating insecurity, we are deeply concerned about the resurgence of non-state actors. We urge the federal government to take urgent steps to strengthen national security,” Bala Mohammed emphasised.

The meeting reaffirmed the PDP’s commitment to good governance and its determination to offer Nigerians a credible alternative in future elections.

‘This meeting, the first in the new year, provided an opportunity for us to assess the state of the nation, evaluate the performance of PDP-controlled states in infrastructure, economy, and security, and discuss internal party developments,” Mohammed stated.
