Council Boss Laments As Kidnappers Kill 1, Abduct 4 In Plateau

The chairman of the Quan-Pan local government council of Plateau State, Hon. Christopher Manship, has lamented the increasing spate of kidnapping and other criminal activities in the area.

LEADERSHIP gathered that suspected gunmen stormed the Shendai community of Namu District of the local government council and killed one person while four others were abducted and taken away to an unknown destination.

A statement issued by the special assistant on media and publicity to chairman Danaan Sylvanus said that Hon Christopher Audu Manship was concerned over the recent kidnapping incident.

According to the statement, Manship has condoled with the people of the Shendai community in Namu over the death of one person and is calling on security agencies to ensure the safe release of the abducted victims.

The council chairman reaffirmed his administration’s steadfast commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens. He pledged to collaborate closely with security agencies to facilitate the prompt and safe rescue of the abducted victims.

The statement also stated that the council chairman has embarked on a fact-finding mission to the affected areas, accompanied by security operatives led by Lt. Col. Ogunrinde Soji and his team, to better understand the incident and its aftermath.

During the visit, the council boss assessed the security situation on the ground and evaluated the affected communities.

He also paid condolences to the families of the deceased and the families of the abducted victims, offering words of comfort and reassurance.

The statement also added that Lt. Col. Soji reiterated the military’s pledge to investigate the incident thoroughly, rescue the abducted victims, and ensure the safety and security of the affected communities.

The community members expressed gratitude to the council boss for his swift response and proactive measures, which they said have demonstrated his unwavering dedication to the people’s safety and well-being.

In his reaction, the special adviser to Governor Caleb Mutfwang on security, who also doubles as Coordinator Operations Rainbow Brig-Gen. Gakji Shipi (rtd) told LEADERSHIP that he had a Zoom meeting with the LGC chairman and the Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) sector commander in the area.

According to him, they are embarking on far-reaching operations. He added that they had deployed technology surveillance cameras to Pandam Game Reserve Forest and border villages in Quan-Pan LGA to track the fleeing criminals.

Gen Shipi further assured that they would have positive results in a few days, adding that they have deployed security to comb the area to rescue the victims unharmed.
