Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho has completed a loan move to English Championship club Middlesbrough till the end of the season after passing his medical test yesterday.

The deal marks a significant addition for Michael Carrick’s side as they push for promotion to the Premier League.

Iheanacho was given permission by Sevilla to travel for his medical after being left out of training on Sunday.

The 28-year-old had attracted interest from Greek clubs PAOK and Panathinaikos, as well as Italian side Venezia, but he prioritized a move back to the UK.

Middlesbrough will reportedly cover the majority of Iheanacho’s wages, amounting to approximately €2 million (N3 billion).

The former Leicester City striker arrives at the Riverside Stadium with a wealth of experience, having won the FA Cup with the Foxes in 2021.

Currently seventh in the Championship with 44 points from 29 games, Middlesbrough will be hoping Iheanacho’s arrival provides the attacking boost needed to secure a playoff spot or even challenge for automatic promotion.

Sky Sports reports that Middlesbrough will also have an option to buy him at the end of the season.

Iheanancho played for Leicester City in the Championship last season.
